Outsourced fireworks show design

Outsource the screen time. Keep the show.

A polished pyromusical or electronic display can consume hours or days of computer work before anyone reaches the shoot site.

Heartland Skyworks provides remote design support for display companies and experienced operators who would rather spend that time selling shows, preparing equipment, managing crews, servicing customers, or running the business.

We focus on the artistic show design in Finale 3D—turning your creative brief and real production inputs into a coherent, reviewable show.

Built for display-company owners

Extra design capacity without an extra employee.

Add experienced design support when the schedule gets crowded—without carrying a full-time design position through the slow months.

01

Scale up for busy season

Add design capacity during unusually high demand without hiring permanent staff.

02

No year-round payroll

Pay for an agreed project scope, not an employee you must carry after peak season.

03

Keep your crew in the field

Let operational staff focus on staging, equipment, wiring, inventory, and execution.

04

Outsource the computer work

For teams that love building and firing shows but not spending nights inside design software.

05

White-label by default

Use the finished design under your company identity. Public credit to Heartland Skyworks is never required.

Core design services

The artistic work behind a field-ready show.

Choose a music-driven pyromusical or a traditional electronically fired display. Each project is scoped around the show you need and the materials you can actually put in the field.

01

Pyromusical design

Music-driven choreography shaped around phrasing, tempo, energy, color, effect relationships, pacing, contrast, and the emotional arc of the show.

02

Traditional electronic show design

No soundtrack required. We design around duration, budget, inventory, site conditions, audience experience, pacing, and finale structure.

03

Soundtrack editing

Using customer-supplied WAV files, we can trim, sequence, crossfade, level, mix, and combine tracks into the finished show soundtrack.

You provide the music and the rights to use it.

04

Finale 3D visualization

Standard completed designs include a 4K rendered proof video for reviewing timing, pacing, color, density, synchronization, and overall flow. We use the actual shoot site and map imagery where practical.

Visualization is a planning tool, not a photorealistic venue model.

Confidential & white-label by default

Your show. Your customer. Your name.

Heartland Skyworks does not require public design credit. If you want the relationship to remain completely behind the scenes, it stays behind the scenes.

We will not publish, post, share, promote, upload, or otherwise publicly display your project without written permission.

  • Show designs or project details
  • Simulation videos or screenshots
  • Design files or soundtracks
  • Client names or customer relationships
  • Completed-show footage
  • Portfolio or advertising references

Clear scope. Clear handoff.

What’s included—and what stays with your team.

Every job begins with a defined scope. Deliverables, review timing, customer responsibilities, and any optional work are agreed before design begins.

Standard design scope

Included

  • Finale 3D show design and choreography
  • Product selection from your supplied catalog or inventory
  • Effect, color, pacing, and sequence design
  • Soundtrack editing from customer-supplied WAV files when scoped
  • Unlimited firing positions within the agreed artistic design scope
  • Standard shoot-site visualization
  • Standard site layout when sufficient information is supplied
  • 4K rendered Finale 3D proof video
  • Agreed Finale 3D project files and standard exports
  • Defined review and revision period

Quoted separately

Optional or exceptional

  • Custom VDL or complex-effect development
  • Compatible customer-provided venue models or backdrop imagery
  • Basic rack and firing assignment for clearly defined inventories
  • AHJ-specific annotations that can reasonably fit the scope

Complex module optimization, splitter strategy, specialty wiring logic, cue-sharing schemes, and equipment-constrained engineering are outside the standard service and may be declined.

Customer responsibility

Your field operation

  • Product procurement and legal possession
  • Storage and transportation
  • Permits and AHJ coordination
  • Site safety and crew management
  • Physical equipment and rack layout
  • Module placement, addressing, pins, and wiring
  • Firing-system deployment
  • Regulatory compliance and legal execution

Price certainty

No hourly meter running.

Every project begins with a defined scope and an agreed project fee. You know the design fee before work begins.

If the scope changes, additional work is quoted before it is performed. No surprise hourly invoices.

Inventory-first design

Your products—not imaginary ones.

Send us the fireworks you actually buy and stock, and we’ll design around real products instead of filling the show with effects your crew cannot procure.

What to send

  • Manufacturer or brand
  • Product name and part number
  • Available or expected quantity
  • Pricing when cost control is part of the brief
  • Existing Finale 3D custom-effect database files

When a shell is not in Finale 3D

For productivity reasons, we rely on effects available in a Finale 3D catalog. If an aerial shell does not exist in the catalog, we will use a generic shell representation that reasonably matches color, burst style, approximate behavior, and scale unless an effect file is provided. Note that the generic effects do not promise an exact reproduction.

Complex products & custom VDL

Cakes, slices, and other behavior-dependent products may require separately quoted custom visualization. A clear video reference of the actual product is required before custom VDL work can be quoted or begun.

Standard site layouts

Provide site dimensions, landmarks, audience locations, boundaries, the firing area, and requested annotations. Layouts support planning; they are not engineered drawings, permit approvals, or guarantees of AHJ acceptance.

How it works

From your brief to a reviewable show.

Design starts when the complete project package is in hand. Clear inputs at the beginning mean fewer assumptions and a stronger final show.

  1. 01

    Tell us about the show

Share duration, music or no music, desired style, audience, site, budget or inventory constraints, and relevant firing-system information.

  2. 02

    Send your products

Provide manufacturers, SKUs, quantities, pricing when needed, and existing custom Finale files.

  3. 03

    Send the music

For pyromusicals, provide final WAV source files and confirm responsibility for the necessary music rights.

  4. 04

    We build & render

Heartland Skyworks creates the artistic show design in Finale 3D and renders a 4K preview.

  5. 05

    Review & deliver

Review the simulation during the defined revision period. We then deliver the agreed files and outputs for your field implementation.

Minimum planning windows

Plan early.

Lead time begins when we have everything needed to design the show—not when the conversation begins.

  • Up to ~5 minutesMinimum 30-day planning window
  • Around 10 minutesUp to 60 days
  • Longer showsWe will discuss
  • Peak season and July 4Book 6 months ahead when possible

These are minimum planning windows and guidelines, not delivery guarantees. Exact timing is confirmed only after the project is scoped and accepted. We do not offer rush orders.

Start the conversation

Need more design capacity?

Send the basics of the show you need, the products and information you already have, and your target date. We’ll determine whether the project is a fit and define the scope before work begins.

  • Show date and duration
  • Music or no music
  • Product list or catalog status
  • Site and audience
  • Desired style and pacing
  • Target budget or constraints

Professional clients

Built for people who already shoot fireworks.

Design services are intended for display companies, professional operators, experienced pyrotechnicians, and qualified organizations capable of legally procuring and executing their own shows.

Heartland Skyworks designs the show. Your team keeps control of the customer relationship, field operation, and legal execution.

A strong fit when you need

  • Temporary design capacity
  • Computer-based creative support
  • Help turning music and inventory into a coherent show
  • A reviewable 4K visualization before fieldwork
  • White-label design under your company identity
  • A defined project fee instead of open-ended hours

Frequently asked questions

The details operators ask about.

Clear answers on scope, inputs, rights, timing, visualization, and handoff.

Do you design shows for other fireworks companies?

Yes. That is the primary design service. Heartland Skyworks can work as outsourced design capacity while your company retains the customer relationship, field operation, and public-facing credit.

Do you only design pyromusicals?

No. We design both music-driven pyromusicals and traditional electronically fired displays without a soundtrack.

What information do I need to provide?

Start with show duration, music or no music, desired style, audience, site information, budget or inventory constraints, available products, and any relevant firing-system limits.

What product information do you need?

Provide manufacturer or brand, product name and part number, quantity, pricing when cost control matters, and any existing Finale 3D custom-effect files.

What happens if my fireworks are not in Finale 3D?

For shell-type effects, we may use a reasonable generic representation. Cakes, slices, and other complex devices may require separately quoted custom VDL work, and a clear video of the actual product must be available before that work can be accepted.

Can you edit my soundtrack?

Yes, when included in the agreed scope. Using WAV files you provide, we can trim, sequence, crossfade, level, mix, and combine tracks into a finished show soundtrack.

Who is responsible for music licensing?

The customer is responsible for owning or obtaining every necessary license, public-performance right, and permission. Heartland Skyworks does not source or purchase commercial music, provide ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC coverage, or assume responsibility for the customer’s use of copyrighted music.

Do you charge by the hour?

No hourly meter runs by default. Each project begins with a defined scope and agreed project fee. If the scope changes, additional work is quoted before it is performed.

Do I receive a simulation video?

Standard completed designs include a 4K Finale 3D proof video so you can review timing, pacing, effects, colors, density, music synchronization, and overall flow.

Can you assign racks and firing-system addresses?

Basic rack and firing assignment may be quoted when your equipment inventory and deployment rules are complete and straightforward. Complex module optimization, splitter strategy, specialty wiring logic, or cue-sharing schemes are outside the standard design service and may be declined.

Do you create site plans?

A standard site layout is included when sufficient dimensions, landmarks, audience locations, boundaries, firing areas, and requested annotations are supplied.

Will your site plan guarantee permit or AHJ approval?

No. Standard layouts support show planning and production; they are not engineered drawings, permit approvals, or guarantees of regulatory acceptance. Provide known AHJ requirements before design begins so we can determine whether they fit the scope.

How long does show design take?

Allow at least 30 days for shows up to about five minutes. Longer shows need more time, and projects around ten minutes or more may require 60 days or longer. Peak-season work may require booking several months ahead. Timing starts after all required materials are received and is confirmed after scoping.

Do you offer rush design?

No. Rush design is not offered. Conservative planning windows protect design quality and provide time for an orderly review.

Will you share my show publicly?

Not without written permission. We will not publish your show, simulation, soundtrack, files, screenshots, client name, project details, or completed-show footage on our website, social channels, YouTube, portfolio, or advertising without written approval.

Do I have to credit Heartland Skyworks?

No. Public credit is never required. Heartland Skyworks can work entirely behind the scenes under a white-label relationship. We certainly appreciate referrals, however.

Can Heartland Skyworks shoot the show too?

For select projects, yes. Heartland Skyworks produces professionally planned, electronically fired 1.4G fireworks displays within Indiana. Contact us separately about the event and site.
